On his easel is the painting titled "5th US Cavalry charge at Gaines Mill, 27th June 1862 during the Peninsular Campaign" painted in 1893 or 1895. 

William Brooke Thomas Trego
Biographical Information

   William Brooke Thomas Trego (1859 - 1909), was born in Yardley, Bucks County PA in 1859.  He studied under his father, the artist Jonathan Kirkbridge Trego, at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, then at the Académie Julian in Paris under Tony Robert-Fleury and William-Adolphe Bouguereau. He is well known for his depictions of American Revolutionary War and Civil War subjects. His depiction of drama and attention to detail made his works so popular that art historian Edwin A. Peeples said "There is probably not an American History book which doesn't have (a) Trego picture in it".
